West Coast

The West Coast can offer a unique experience of exploring the most dramatic and isolated parts of Paxos island, revealing impressive rock formations, limestone cliffs, sea caves, remote beaches, coves and a whole lot of History! The stories take you from Neptune and Amphitrite to talks about pirates, to the end of World War II and Papanikolis submarine cave.

Important Notice: Due to the fact that Paxos West Coast is exposed to the open sea you have to be more vigilant of weather conditions and preferably should be done before midday. The approach deep into the sea caves should be avoided even for the most experienced boat handlers, anchoring a rental boat at Paxos west coast’s waters needs special knowledge of the area, away from rocky areas and deep waters.

Boat Hire Paxos offer a truly unique opportunity to the visitors of Paxos & Antipaxos to escape and explore even the most hidden parts of the islands.

Immediately after Lakka’s bay at the Northernmost point of Paxos you will come across the Lakka’s Lighthouse and Planoi beach.

The landscape then changes dramatically and steep vertical limestone cliffs appear.

Ypapantis Cave at the bottom of the gulf of Kastanida makes a unique landscape, large enough for small rental boats, small motor yachts and day trip boats to enter the cave. During World War II the Greek submarine Papanickolis found shelter there, as did seals, since the tiny beach at the far bottom of the cave is a perfect environment for them to protect their babies. The myth says that it somehow communicates with Ypapanti’s Church.

Immediately after, the great limestone cliffs of Erimitis with it’s breathtaking depth, being the newest beach on Paxos island that was formed from a landslide of the cliff, painting the waters with a light blue color. On the pathway nearby the beach the old cistern is still running now, which in the past served the residents’ need for freshwater.

Blue Caves

The Gulf in Achai is a very special place ideal for those who love to anchor their rental boat and enjoy swimming, snorkeling in the amazing famous Blue Caves, a tiny beach providing an opportunity for total relaxation.

Ortholithos

Leaving Blue Caves moving towards the south we meet Ortholithos, and the homonymous Cave, an impressive rock formation that is as if it emerges from the sea to capture the eye of the visitor.

Continuing south we pass by the beach Aulaki to get to the beach Galazio.

And from there to reach further south to the Tripitos (also known as Kamara), right here nature has created an impressive arch in the sea which is a part of a collapsed sea cave, you will be rewarded with an amazing scenic view of the turquoise sea, while in the distance before us is the island of Antipaxos.
